The industry is committed to creating environments where everyone has equal opportunities and feels valued.
Achieving this requires a diverse and inclusive workforce that reflects the communities retail serves, and ensuring fair, respectful, and just treatment of workers across the entire supply chain.
The BRC plays a key role in supporting retailers on this journey. Established in 2021, the BRC Diversity & Inclusion Charter responds to an urgent need for the industry to move the dial on D&I. Built around six pledges - CEO accountability, recruitment, opportunity and progression, data sharing, inclusive workplace and culture, and line managers’ responsibility - the Charter provides signatories with an opportunity to challenge culture and biases and embed D&I into every aspect of the business and access a comprehensive programme of workshops and in-person events to advance your D&I strategies.
The annual Diversity and Inclusion in UK Retail Report explores the status of diversity and inclusion in the UK retail industry, looking in detail at gender, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, social mobility, and age. By tracking progress and identifying what more needs to be done, we help ensure strategies are translating to inclusive environments for the retail workforce.
