Taxes and high costs of doing business weigh on the investment retailers want to make, which impacts economic growth.
Alongside investment in people and technology, retailers continue to invest in local communities. Desire to do more necessitates the successful transformation of high streets to include more leisure, care services and homes, as well as retail investment, and ensuring they are pleasant and safe places to visit by tackling the causes and impacts of crime.
It also requires the right regulatory environment to be in place at a local level, and a coordinated and complementary approach to tax, policy and regulation nationally.
The fiscal landscape is particularly important as retail pays a disproportionate share of total taxes compared to other industries. Along with hospitality, retail pays a larger share of its profits in business taxes than any other sector so the tax landscape and fiscal policies of the government matter.
We work with members to influence the above and help create the right environment to enable you to invest in communities, technology and people.
