Before Christmas we received an update from IGD colleagues on proposals to develop a harmonised environmental labelling approach for food.
IGD - the project co-ordinator - has recently been consulting with the project steering group on the future direction of the work and its immediate priorities for 2023. IGD will be updating BRC retail members on at Teams call on 8 February and you can view details and sign up for the meeting here
In the meantime:
- The steering group has received the results of the virtual reality labelling prototype trials in which Co-Op, Morrisons, Sainsburys and Tesco participated. These will be considered over coming weeks.
- With support from the steering group, the project will develop detailed recommendations across four areas label, method, data and governance by the end of 2023. These will be delivered to government to inform any consultation on labelling. The project will be looking at opportunities to align with the Government Food Data Transparency Partnership and the Mondra/BRC work on carbon footprinting.
IGD has also created a short presentation with background on the project and progress to date.
